Lushi’s Journey: From Community School to Future IAS Officer
Lushi is the eldest of five siblings. When her parents left their village and traveled to Delhi in search of work, they had to leave her behind. They wanted their daughter to study, but without the proper identification documents, Lushi could not enroll in a government school when she eventually joined her family in Delhi. Her parents could not afford private school.
But Lushi was brilliant—and determined to learn.
For a time, she was alone in the village, vulnerable to violence and exploitation. When we learned about her situation, we helped bring Lushi to Delhi and enrolled her and her sisters in our Community School, giving them a safe place to learn, eat, grow, and dream.
As Lushi progressed, we helped her family obtain the identification documents they needed to secure admission to the local government school. She thrived.
Her potential was clear, so her journey with us continued. Lushi became part of our Girls Education Program (GEP), where she received additional educational support, guidance, and opportunities to develop her leadership and career aspirations.
Today, Lushi is in college with a dream of becoming an IAS officer.
And her story doesn’t stop with her.
Her younger sisters are following the path she helped create. They attend our Community School and government schools, determined to study, succeed, and build better futures for themselves.
Lushi’s mother often tells us how grateful she is that her daughters were given the opportunity to learn.
What began with a girl who simply needed a chance has become a family determined to change its future through education.
Lushi went from a child at risk of being left behind to a college student with her sights set on serving her country.
Sometimes, changing a life begins with something as simple as opening the door to a classroom.
